While the New Year Comes In

New Year's started with a birthday party for Miss Madison. Her birthday is December 30th, so Liz and Joe celebrate it on the 31st so that they can also throw a New Year's Party. Last year Ken and I went for the birthday party, but had other plans for New Year's. We had missed Christmas Day, so we decided to try the overnight party this year. Jacob was pretty excited because he got to open his Christmas presents for Rob/Rose and Todd/Paula. He loved his new trucks. I think he has a whole fleet now.

Madison had a really fun time when Dora showed up. Dora is her absolute FAVORITE character. She's got Dora shirts, jammies, dolls, houses, books, tapes, uh is there anything else? Anyway, when Dora walked in, her eyes just lit right up. I don't think she believed that Dora was actually in her living room. Danie was excited, too. She went right up to her and didn't want to leave her side. After Dora left, we all had some lunch and cake. Poor Madison was so tired that she almost fell asleep in her cake.

A snowstorm was predicted for the night, so we were glad we decided to stay over. Once Jacob was settled into bed upstairs, we were ready to start the New Year's party. We started by trying to build a snowman. Rosie got us all outside and we used our new snowman kit. She was crazy about building that snowman, but there just wasn't enough snow. After that, we all took turns playing the virtual ping pong that Steven got for Christmas. It's really fun. Steven started out as the champ, and then Liz took over the title. When Rosie picked up the paddle, she was on fire. She took over the crown for a few rounds until Joe finally beat her.**

When midnight approached, we all settled in to watch the ball drop. Jordan, Steven, and Ryan also stayed up with us. It was a struggle for Ryan, but when Rob knocked over his drink, the commotion perked Ryan back up. We stayed up too long after midnight, and wandered to bed around 3AM. That was a big mistake for us because Jake had no sympathy for us when he woke up at 6. We managed to get him to go back down for another hour, but man we were tired.

When everyone got up, we all stayed for a big New Year's breakfast. It was nice to spend the holiday with everyone, but I think I need to get to bed much earlier next time.....

** OK, so not so true. Rosie was over and out by 10, so I made up most of that stuff, but fortunately she perked back up before the ball fell. Happy New Year Rosie, and you don't want to know what happened while you were dozing...
