Mother's Day
(5/7/05)
(As with all our photos, click on one anywhere in our site, and it will open up bigger)

I got to celebrate my first Mother's Day. Yae! It was pretty exciting. Jacob made me a cute little hand print in daycare.

Ken hid it until the weekend, so it was pretty cute watching Ken try to get Jake to give it to me. Jacob was less than interested in the task. The Wiggles were probably on or there was a ball on the floor keeping his attention.

We had our annual Mother's Day BBQ at our place. Unfortunately Brian and his crew couldn't make it due to a baseball game and work. I'm not sure where Morgan was, but you know how it is. Unfortunately, it's all boy cousins, so family stuff is not the most fun for her. It was, as usual, lousy outside, although I shouldn't complain. It was supposed to be raining all day, and instead it was just really cold. The kids managed to head out and practice pitching to each other and play a little bit of basketball, but mostly they were downstairs playing pool, air hockey, or whatever.

Everyone brought a dish so there was plenty of food. Cooking out is so simple because just about anything goes for food. You can do as much or as little as you want. I try to do something a little different each year, so this year I fried up some mushrooms. I think they went over pretty well.

The Kentucky Derby was the same day as the BBQ, so Rob and Ken being Rob and Ken came up with a "gambling" plan. The put all the horse names into a hat. Everyone put in a few dollars and picked 3 horses. It was funny because then everyone gathered around the TV rooting on their horse even if it was like a million to 1. Rob won. Everyone knew it would be Rob or Ken. It was their idea, so you have to figure it was just going to be that way.

Despite the weather, everyone had a good time (except for Dakota). It's always good to get family together for a casual day of eating and hanging out. It's especially good when you're not one of the crew that had to drive forever in a car to get there!

Good luck Liz. It's not likely Jake's going to give up mellon to anyone. Jake eating with Grandma Ahhh, giving hugs.
Picking our horses from the basket. Even Jake was into the race!
