4th of July Weekend
(7/4/05)
(As with all our photos, click on one anywhere in our site, and it will open up bigger)

We didn't do anything big this Fourth of July, but it was a nice weekend. One day we spent at our neighbor's who was having a party. There was a little "kiddie" pool, so Jake was pretty happy. We have a blow-up pool, but it's kind of big. Jacob is a little overwhelmed in it and just stays in one corner of it. With the smaller one, he was having a really fun time splashing in it. He also was able to get in and out on his own, which he liked too. The best part of the day for him was, of course, the food. He got to have his first slice of watermelon. He loves melon, but usually it's cut up into pieces for him. We always have to worry about him putting too much in his mouth at once, so it's just safer to feed him that way. We took a chance and gave him the whole slice. Well, he absolutely loved it! He had such a big smile on his face while he carried around his slice. It was dripping all over him. Boy, what a mess! Almost as soon as he got a slice, he was done and wanted another one. He had like 8 slices. I had to cut off the rind, though. He didn't know it wasn't the "food" part, so he was eating that, too.

We spend one day up at the "Taste of Enfield". It was like a craft show with food booths and music. We had tried to go to an event closer to home, but the date was a misprint in the newspaper. We were already all packed and ready to go, so we searched the paper for something else to do. We saw the thing in Enfield, so we made the trek up. There were a lot of craft booths. I almost managed to stay away from them, but I saw this cute little "onesy" that was tie-dyed. They had Jakes' size, so I scooped it up. Then we headed off to the food booths. We had our stomachs set for fried dough from our previous plan, so we hoped they had a booth with that. As luck would have it, they did. We headed for the shade, pulled out the watermelon chunks for Jake, and Ken and I munched on the greasy dough. When we were done, we ventured over to the "kids" section. There was a lot of inflatable stuff like slides and bounce houses, but Jake is just too small to be in those with the big kids. We found a pony ride. He had never been on a real horse, so it was really cool. He did really well waiting in line. He got to go on the pony two times. (I think he really went twice so that both Mommy and Daddy could be there while he rode.) We headed back for some ice cream and tried to explain to Jacob how to lick a cone. He normally shares a cup of ice cream, so he really didn't know what to do. He put his mouth on it, but didn't understand the whole licking thing. He had fun trying though.

On the 4th we headed to my monther's to go swimming. The pool had just been opened, so the water was really cold. Only Ken and Jacob went in. Jake wasn't that crazy about his floating thing. He liked standing on the steps, though. He also got more slices of watermelon, which of course, was a good thing for him. At lunch, he got another first. He had his first ear of corn. He couldn't hold it and bite it at the same time. So, we held it while he nibbled away. Eventually he held it himslelf, but he basically was just chewing on the ends. Again, it didn't matter to him. He was just having fun.
