The boys' birthdays are only two weeks apart, so we combined their birthdays for the big party. Since Mitchell really didn't care, we let Jacob pick the theme for the party. He went with Bob the Builder, so I was pretty happy. It gave me some easy ideas for decorating and I knew I could get a cool cake. Well, let's just say it's not a family of rocket scientists. It might have been that people came in thru the garage instead of the front door due to the ice, but I'm not sure. I used caution tape instead of streamers, and everyone just thought that the bathroom was broken and that I was trying to keep Mitchell out of certain spots. Ahh, I guess I'm just a misunderstood artist...

We sent out for pizza and subs for this party to make it easier. I held back on the appetizers since we started the party later in the afternoon and to also make sure we didn't have leftovers when the food came out. Unfortunately for some reason people skipped lunch, so they were starving. It was amazing how quick the chips went down to the crumbs! Oh well....

We tackled the mountain of presents before eating to make some room. It was crazy opening both kids presents at the same time. Ken had Mitchell and said he just tried to open them up as fast as he could. I tried to keep Jacob focused, but if he opened a toy, he wanted to stop and try to convince me to open it up. He even hit a shirt that made him want to change into it.

Cake time was fun. Last year, Jacob as a little "blowing out candle challenged", but this year he was all set. We had to reel him in because he was trying to blow them out as soon as they were lit. We sang once to Jacob, and then again to Mitchell. Bad Mommy was fine with blowing off poor Mitchell, but the crowd wouldn't have it. He didn't have a clue. He just looked like a deer in the headlights while we sang. There people on either side of him to make sure he didn't touch the candle, and surprise surprise, Jacob blew it out for him. Somehow Jacob got his cake without a fork. Jacob being Jacob, didn't say a word. He dove in with both hands. By the time we noticed, it was too late to bother. Mitchell also was psyched about his cake. He had his own little one, so he was all set to go to town. Well, go to town he did. He reached for the cake with both hands and tried to bring it closer kind of like a "cake hug". He wasn't positive that he was supposed to eat it, but he got into the frosting. I left the room for a second and when I came back, he was covered. I guess someone broke it open a little bit for him. That's all he needed in order for him to get the whole process. Let's just say we had to shove him under the kitchen faucet when he was done!

Jacob REALLY enjoyed that nobody noticed he didn't have a fork! Mitchell couldn't wait for his cake! And BOY did he have a great time with it!
