Ken and I took a day off and took a daytrip to Mystic Aquarium. Daycare was on vacation so we took the opportunity to beat the crowds and head off on a weekday. Ever since "Finding Nemo" and "Shark Tales" he has been totally into the whole fish thing. We knew he was going to have a really good time.

We got there pretty much as soon as it opened so it was really empty. I'm sure, the fact that it was going to be a drizzling crummy day had nothing to do with it being empty either. I had gone online to find out when all the feedings and events were so that we could pack it all in, so we were totally ready.

So, as soon as we got there we headed over to the penguins. When I was in school I was totally into penguins I knew all the different kinds and all the other relatively useless information about them. A little of the info still lingers in my brain, but most of it is long gone. These were African penguins, so they actually like it warm. Fortunately it was just warm enough for them to come out. They were all lined up waiting for the trainers to come out for food. Jacob was really into Penguins from the movie "Madagascar" (yah he probably watches too many movies....). Anyway, he thought it was really cool when they swam by. Ken was actually the one who was the most interested watching them eat. He couldn't believe that they ate those big fish whole. After the penguins we headed over to the Sea Lions for their feeding. You're pretty far away from these guys, so it was a lot less exciting. They were huge, though.

After them, we went inside the aquarium. Jacob was thrilled when he saw all the tanks. He wasn't so thrilled to go into the dark "cave" area where the bats and nighttime animals were, but of course we dragged him in there anyway. He was OK once we were in there. He saw more fish than he's ever seen, so it was pretty amazing for him. We got to pet a baby crocodile, but I think I was the one who was most excited about that. Who knew how soft and smooth their underbellies were?

Once we did the rounds in there we headed back out for the Beluga Whale feedings. Unfortunately I had bad info so they weren't going to be feeding them until later in the day. Jacob still thought it was really cool to see them swimming around. We had a really good time, but the aquarium was a lot smaller than I remember. Although maybe I was just a lot smaller....

Ken really enjoyed watching them eat fish in one gulp Jacob liked to see them swim' The Boys!
They also ate in one gulp, but not so impressive when you way a million pounds Mommy and her 2 boys Jacob finally got to see a whale.
