Where's Elmo?!
(7/5/06)

We wanted to do a possible last trip with Jacob before his little brother arrived. He is 2 now, so he's a fun age to go do stuff, but he's not quite old enough to do very many things. We did Davis Farm, which was very fun, so we figured we would make the big trek and head down to Sesame Place in Pennsylvania. Now, Jacob is very interested in his movies like Shark Tales and Monsters Inc, but he seems to know his Sesame Street characters, as well. (I'm guessing he does a little more TV watching at daycare than we know about.) In any case, we started flipping the TV to the Sprout channel so we could get to know the characters. There are some new ones since back when we watched, so we figured we should get a quick study. Plus, we wanted Jacob to get into these guys as well.

So we let him know about it a couple days before. It was the holiday weekend, so he we didn't want to confuse him with when he was actually going to see Elmo. He was THRILLED. He just couldn't wait to go see Elmo. It was great! Now we just had to keep him interested for a couple days. As it turned out, that wasn't a challenge. I don't know what is up with those characters, but they have a big draw on the kids.

We woke up really early and got a great start on the day. Along the way we made a pit stop. From the back seat we hear, "Me get out now! Elmo!". Poor little guy. We had to explain to him we weren't there yet, and he wasn't that thrilled to hear the news. We got to the hotel around lunch time, parked the car, and again from the back seat we hear "Me get out now! Elmo!". Yup, had to explain to him again. At least this time when we got out, there was a giant cardboard cut-out of the big red guy, plus there was an elevator. (He loves to push the buttons) So, he was better about hearing the news this time. It was raining the whole time down, and it only let up as we arrived, but the weather report was for more rain. Well, there are water attractions at the park, so we packed up and headed off.

It was great. The rain held off, and the park was pretty empty. We didn't really have to wait in any lines for the characters or the rides. Surprisingly enough, Mr. Jacob went to all the characters. He posed without smiling, but at least he wasn't afraid to go up and see them. He even hugged them. He loved going on all the rides too. Of course, his favorite part was the water stuff. He loves those squirty things. He just squeals and runs from spot to spot. Another surprise that his big thrill was Cookie Monster and not Elmo. Of course when he went up the the first blue guy we saw, I was like Ohh, Cookie Monster. There you go Jake. Well, the "handler" was quick to let me know it was Grover. I guess all my studying didn't help me out. At least it was a blue guy that I was confused by and it wasn't like Oscar or Burt, right?

I think he had a really great time, although we couldn't ask him because he fell asleep before we got out the gate. We went back the next day, but he was just so tuckered out that he only made it a couple hours before he was ready to go. This time he made it out the gate, but he was asleep in the car before we made it to the highway!

On the Big Bird Steps Up Up and Away in your Balloon Mommy put you on another "spinny" ride!
On the Flying Elmo Fish Look closely and you can see Jacob's little hand! Daddy brought you on a crazy water raft slide! (If you look closely you can see his shark tattoo on his chest)
