Our
Vermont Vacation (07/07/07 - 07/14/07) |

We decided to pack everyone up and attempt a "family vacation". We rented a cottage on a lake in Vermont because I figured it would give the kids plenty of space when we weren't out and about.
We packed just about everything you can imagine baby gates, port-a-crib, toys, sippy cups, cabinet locks.... It was crazy. The car was packed to the top inside and out. There was even a bunch stuff on the floor in front of the kids. The kids did great in the car. They watched movies, slept, and sang songs.
The
cottage was pretty good. There was a big screened in porch where we spent most
of the time. It was nice and cool out there. The tv only got CBS, so that was
kind of a bummer, but since it was the All-Star break, Ken didn't really mind.
I was the one who was kind of "jonesing" for some of my favorite shows. Actually
I probably just missed being able to flip flip flip from show to show.
There was a run-down putt-putt golf about 300 yards away, so we took Jacob for his first round of golf. (Mitchell rode in the pack on Ken's back.) Let's just say Jacob has a little ways to go before we can call him Tiger, but he had fun. Ken on the other hand was "on fire". There was also a beach area that the campers used. We could pay and go there too. It was pretty cool. The area was really clean, and there was a giant trampoline in the water that Jacob played on. Mitchell had fun playing at the edge.
We also spent a couple days sightseeing around. We went to the Ben and Jerry's factory, an aquarium, and did some shopping (of course). Burlington was a really nice town. We walked around there to a marketplace that was kind of fun. There was a fountain at the end. It was pretty cool because it was really part of the walkway. There where people sitting with their feet in it and even a couple dogs walking thru it. So of course, we took Jacob's shoes off, rolled up his shorts, and let him wade thru. He had a lot of fun in there. He especially liked the water shooting out from the sides. We also walked around Middlebury, which is another quiet college town.
Overall it was pretty good, but vacationing with little ones is pretty much the same as being home. It's still a lot of work, but you're just in a different place.
