Hebron Fair!
(9/8/05 - 9/11/05)

The second week of September is the Hebron Fair. Fairs are classified, and this one is considered a "major" fair. I'm not sure who does the classifying or what it means, but it's one of the bigger fairs. I volunteered to work a few days at the Church booth scooping ice cream, so we got a weekend pas.

Ken, Jake and I headed out Thursday night as soon as it opened. I had entered some photos, so I couldn't wait any longer to find out if I had gotten any ribbons. I kind of cheated the system because you can only enter one photo per category. We couldn't decide out of three, so I entered all three under different names. Well, they one 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize. It was very cool. My animal photo, a cow, didn't win. I gave it to the farmer who owns the cow. He seemed happy to have it despite it being a loser. It's going up in the barn, so that's cool. After checking out the photos, we hit the fried dough and some other food. Once we were done pigging out, we headed to the rides. Jake loves the rides. We did that until it was time to leave.

I headed out Friday and Saturday morning by myself to scoop. Saturday afternoon Liz, Joe, Steven, and Madison came up to hit the fair. The weather was much better than the day of the Lebanon Fair. It was warm, but it was "September warm", which is way better than "August warm". We hit the food booths first. Joe was pretty excited about the pulled pork sandwiches. He got two! After eating we went to the rides. Steven was a good sport because he was ok with just going on the kiddie rides with Jake and Madison. Most of the rides required you be 36" tall, so Jake was really only allowed on one unless someone rode with him. We all (except Liz) went on a ride that was similar to the "tea cups". It was pretty funny to see us all climb in. After the rides we walked around a little bit. We took the kids to the animals. On the way we stopped to hear the music. The fair usually gets some decent bands, but they are mostly country, so I don't know who they are. This year they had Emerson Drive, but like I said, no clue who they are. Liz and Joe knew of them, though. It was a good day.

On Sunday Ken, Jake, and I headed back. We hadn't really walked around the fair, so we hoped to do that. We, of course, hit the food booths first. We hadn't stopped by the ice cream booth with Jake on Thursday, so we headed over there for a visit. They gave Jake some ice cream, which he devoured. Next to the ice cream booth there is a booth that sells milk. They have a calf there, so we figured we give it another go at introducing Jake. I sat on the ground next to the cage and Jake did his "bye bye" wave and said "no". A bunch of kids came over to her, so Jake kind of warmed up a little bit. He came over and sat next to me. After what seemed like hours, Jake finally approached the cage. He actually pet her nose. it was pretty exciting. From there we grabbed lunch. While Ken was out getting Jake a grilled cheese, my friends from the ice cream booth came back with an ice cream cone. Jake hasn't quite figured out how to lick a cone yet, so they wanted to see it. Well, he mastered it. He even ate the whole cone. Once the eating frenzy was done, we headed for the rides. Jake went on a few, but he was getting a little tired. We put him in the stroller and walked around while he dozed off. When he woke up, we all went on the ferris wheel. I was glad we went back because we had a nice time doing the "family thing".
