First trip to the Beach(7/14/05) |

Jake
had his first trip to the beach. He loves the tub, but only likes his pool if
he can be standing. So, we weren't sure how he was going to like the waves.
We packed the cooler with enough food to hold the boy over for a week and headed
off to Misquamicut in Rhode Island. It's only about 1 1/2 hours away, so it
fits in really nice for him to nap on the trip there and back.
It was a great day for the beach. It was really overcast and only in the 70s. That meant we weren't going to get scorched or sweat our butts off. We go to a place just past the State Beach, so it's a little cheaper, and we can park closer to the water. We unloaded the car, which wasn't too bad because we brought the wagon, and set up shop. We managed to get out of the house really early, so the beach was pretty much ours when we arrived.
We
were excited to see what Jake thought, so we put him down and thought we'd head
to the water right away. Well, he wasn't that thrilled
with
being put down on the sand. He goes barefoot all the time, so I was surprised
to see his toes curl in the sand. He got over it pretty quick when he realized
Daddy was just up at the car getting more stuff. I think he was having a Day
Care flashback and thought we were leaving him there.
We headed to the water and his toes curled again when they hit the wet sand. His lip gave a little quiver, but again it didn't last long. He liked the water a lot. He was a little wobbly when the waves came and the water sucked all the sand from under his feet. He tipped a few times, which he wasn't all that happy about. By the end of the day, he was loving it. He was sitting in the water while waves came up on him. He also let Daddy swish him around in the waves. He just kept wanting to go deeper and deeper. Aside from his occasional munch, well really lick, of sand, he had a great time! He slept on the way back and then slept for another 1 1/2 hours when he got home. Ken had to actually wake him up. Poor little guy. He must have more fun than we thought.
| Don't worry. You won't spend the whole day in the cage! | His first touches of water | |
| He always manages to find a rock somewhere | Checking out the waves | |
| Daddy and Jake heading back out again | Mommy and Jake | Uh, IN the bucket, Jake. |
| Jake seems so tiny against this background | Pretty happy about that bucket... | OK, still having an issue getting the sand IN the bucket. |
| OK, now you've got it. | Celebrating the whole sand in bucket thing. | Yup, back in he goes... |
