The
big day finally arrived. We went to court to finalize Mitchell's adoption and
to also make him a U.S. citizen. When we got the letter I pulled his Han Bok
out of the closet and began the alterations. He is still a peanut, so I had
to make suspenders to keep the pants up. I also had to take the sleeves in about
a foot.
Just like "gotcha day", we opened the event up. It's a really quick event, but we gave the grandparents a call to see if they wanted to go. It was fun to have more people there. The judge tried to stretch out the ceremony, but these things are really just him signing the papers. (We already did all the signing of forms weeks ago.) When it was over, we took all the traditional pictures for Mitchell's scrapbook. He isn't as much of a poser as Jacob, so it's pretty much a challenge. It didn't help that his pants were so slippery either.
As we were leaving, the judge explained the cow that was out front of the town hall. "Cows on Parade" was going on. The grandparents took Jacob over while we change Mitchell to his plain clothes. When we got there, Jacob was getting plastic wrapped around him. Some how he managed to get a chance to paint one of the cows! It was pretty funny. The artist gave him a plastic spoon and a cup of paint. Jacob scooped the paint and flicked it at the cow. The really funny part was that there was supposed to be a press conference to kick off the event. It was running a little behind, and the organizers had planned to start painting at that. So, the planning lady came over 3 times to try to get the artist to stop letting Jacob paint. The artist didn't seem to care in the least. He knew Jacob was having fun, and that was all that seemed to matter to him. When she came back the last time, we figured we would give her a break and stopped Jacob. He had paint pretty much everywhere. Ken cleaned him up pretty well (despite the guy telling us it wouldn't wash off very easily) and headed off to get pizza.
It was a really fun and special day, and we were glad to have shared it with everyone.
